A Proper SALE

If you’re familiar with us then you’ll know that we buy pieces that last the course! We buy clothes that you can wear year in, year out and some tops, cardis and jackets that even transcend seasons. Everybody that works in our shops will tell you that the one comment we hear repeatedly is that the item the customer bought from us is a favourite and never off her back. This is very satisfying as it means we are doing our job properly. Fashion has to move and evolve but we’re careful about suiting the customer rather than the latest trend.
So, when it comes to the Fifi Wilson sale after Christmas our clothes disappear faster than the pine needles. We treat customers the way we like to be treated and we find nothing more exasperating than those awful ‘Up to’ sale signs. You walk into the shop with the promise of up to 50% off to find it full of much lower discounts. So, we don’t mess around we give something back to our great customers and reduce what stock we have left of Disaya, Odd Molly, Manoush, Gabby Harris, By Malene, Sonia by Sonia Rykiel, Bella Freud amongst many by a straight 50%. Be warned though, word has spread and we have many items that there are only one or two pieces left in all the shops!
If you want to pick up some of our great buys Chelsea and Covent Garden boutiques are open on Boxing Day 10-6pm and all boutiques are open on New Years Eve 12-4pm. Otherwise, we are of course open all hours online. Please allow for a slight delay in delivery times over the festive period.
So Sonia!

Hands up who’s ready for some Spring/Summer ‘10 in their lives?! Thought so. One of the best aspects of working in fashion is the excitement of the new season. At the risk of sounding like a tree hugger (Won’t be the first time!) it’s the same thrill you get when you see the daffs and buds appear. If you missed out on one of our favourite Winter ‘09 items we’ve got just the thing to put a spring back in your step.
Our Sonia Rykeil has just arrived and it’s mighty fine. We think that’s it’s one of her best collections to date. It’s fitting that Sonia propels us into Spring with such a fresh, fun collection but believe me that’s only the beginning. There are such beauties coming our way and as always we’ve got so many new labels that no-one has in the UK.
Prepare to be inspired and amazed by our new discoveries! As usual we have hand-picked labels from all over the world for their creativity, individuality and style. We are not, nor ever shall be about margins. We are about an all consuming passion for clothes that we share with our customers and thankfully our customers recognise it. We are extremely excited to provide you with more exquisite, unique and wearable clothes for Spring/Summer 2010.
Watch this space!
Listen up!

Oh my goodness! We are quite literally hyperventilating over this unbelievably cool new delivery.
In sweet, candy pastels and cool, quirky brights, you have to replace those tatty old white headphones immediately. Check out these retro beauties that have been flying off our shelves since the day they arrived.
Choose between pale pink, baby blue, fresh white, bright yellow and zingy green all £29.95. They are possibly THE coolest Christmas present you could give or receive, the only question is whether you’re going to give a pair to your deserving self or a very lucky friend. They also answer the tricky question of what to get the father/boyfriend/brother/son/male mate.
I, like many like to give the impression I’m a bit of a technological wizard, but sadly the truth lies far from those words. However, I have been informed by many reliable sources of geekiness that these headphones are of outstanding technical quality. I personally wouldn’t complain if they played out the Psycho knife sound twenty-four seven, they’re just so beautiful.
We can’t help but notice a severe case of role reversal taking place since they’ve been in store. Our lovely female customers have purchased their Xmas party dress, girlfriend’s gifts, new seasons must have toywatch and are ready to brave the cold, whilst their male companion is still cooing over the headphones, many have needed to be dragged out like toddlers.
Reward yourself for finishing your Christmas shopping, or actually finish your Christmas shopping by snapping up these gorgeous gadgets (I never thought I’d use those two words in the same sentence!).
Together, let’s transform travel and transport for 2010. Laters Boris!

Oh my, do we have a treat in store for you! With all the awful storms overnight and us being so fond of our customers, we thought we’d give you a little pre-Christmas cheer. We often choose to discount one of our labels and offer a little pick me up for when we sense that we’re all getting a bit tired and stressed – and let’s face it who wouldn’t be these days!
Our wonderful Fred Perry Laurel collection including jackets and macs is perfect for keeping you protected from the cold, wet weather.
Fred Perry began with the famous pique polo shirt in 1952 and since then they have continued to produce cool classics worn by everyone and anyone. The Laurel collection is their more classic arm with styles that are guaranteed to be in your wardrobe for years to come.
All of the Fred Perry Laurel collection has wonderful detail with a modern flair to each retro piece. You can choose between black macs, cool jackets, lovely little cardigans and great black shift or lace dresses and all with 30% discount.
Chezza v’s Danni

It’s that time of the week already. Yay! Get ready to snuggle up on the sofa and choose whether you want to go for Cheryl’s style or the Danni look this week. We’ve got a selection that would please each glam judge so all that you have to do is choose whose look has the style factor you love. There’s been huge media attention creating constant competition and polls between the girls on who looks best but we think they both look great in their own way. Both seem to come up with endless new looks yet Danni often opts for more rock-chick whereas Cheryl always looks groomed to within an inch of her life.
Let’s start with the beautiful, brunette Minogue sister. Our selection of the Rose Manoush dress or shirt would look fab on her. Unique and quirky, perfect for feisty females. We can just see her wearing them with dark nails, smokey eyes and frosty pink lipstick. We’ve got her sorted for the rest of the week too, not just live show outfits! For when the show’s over and it’s chilly outside, we reckon she’d rock the black Disaya faux fur jacket pretty well over a glam dress or with skinnie jeans and biker boots. For those of you who, like Danni, are fond of injecting a little attitude into their style, the Bella Freud jerseys are perfect and you’ll get a lot of wear out of them. The punky pink and black stripey one and the pink with the black love heart are effortlessly cool and very Danni. Team them with black jeans and a tough leather jacket. She’s a girl after our own hearts with her massive love of cool jewellery and the big metal cuffs are very her! They finish off any outfit and add some rock chick glamour. Be quick though Danni we’re selling out fast!
We all reckon glam Cheryl would absolutely adore our Disaya cream faux fur dress, can’t you just picture her in it? The Eros beige and black sequined dress would look great for the saturday night show, and just as fab for a special night out teamed with black opaques and patent platforms. For daytime comfort she’s a massive Sonia Rykeil fan and is often photographed in the lovely Sonia pieces. The black fitted top with a gold button either side of the collar is right ‘up her street’. It’s a wonderful cut and is really flattering on a wide range of shapes and sizes. Alternatively the Antoni and Alison jumpers are just as lovely and quirky as Sonia’s. We can imagine Cheryl in the ’shirt and tie’ one with a bright pink lipstick! She’s also a huge fan of Toywatches she loves the bright coloured fluo ones in particular. Check our site for colours and our stores for an even wider selection. To finish off any outfit make like Cheryl with a pretty headband. She adores ‘Deepa Gurnani’ headbands and has been spotted wearing them on numerous occasions, proving they look amazing with evening dresses and just as good with a laid back daytime look. We’ve currently got a handful left in our Chelsea shop.
Whoever’s style you rate more, we have got you sorted, day or night, dressy or casual. Now all you have to do is curl up on the sofa, computer on lap, clicking away to snap up your Danni/Cheryl favourite pieces from out gorgeous collection in the X-factor breaks. Or if you prefer just enjoy the shows this weekend then pop into one of our stores next week and have a trying on session with all our staff on hand.
Next week, a Louis and Simon style special…not really, we’re low on high waisted black trousers this season!

The effortlessly stylish daughter of the world renowned painter Lucien Freud has used her creative genes to optimum producing the coolest jerseys around town. As I’m sure you know by now, we at Fifi Wilson are all huge Bella fans. She encaptures the sort of confidence and indivuality that we believe clothes should be able to offer. Choose from a selection of quirky designs from this season’s collection. One of our regular favourites is her dog jersey ‘Pluto’ which she reinvents every season. If you’re after a bit of a rocky edge, go for the jailbait stripey ‘Pluto’ to add a little attitude to your wardrobe. Another key piece this season is the simple monochrome ‘Girl’ tunic, which looks great with simple black skinny jeans or thick tights and boots or ballet pumps. Or how about the ‘loveheart’ if you want to put a bit of punk chic into your closet. Whatever your style, there’s a Bella here for you.

Anna Wintour. The name may send shivers down many a spine, however our fascination with fashion’s Ice Queen is as strong as ever. Despite being an insight into the life of the inspiration for ‘The Devil Wears Prada’, this film’s real star for me had to be the Creative Director, Grace Coddington. Her refreshing attitude, original creativity and willingness to speak her mind made her magnetic to watch.
There is some very memorable footage of both, such as Anna’s response to her daughter declaring she doesn’t want anything to do with the magazine, preferring a career in law. A smug ‘We’ll see’ gave insight into this formidable character and her persistence to get what she wants even when out of the office and closer to home. Grace’s original ideas were totally inspiring. There’s a wonderful scene on a shoot photographing a model jumping in the air. On the spur of the moment Grace suggests that the camera man filming the documentary jumps also. The photos are later photo shopped into one with both the model and photographer facing each other mid- air.
We caught a glimpse of Anna and Grace’s differences when Grace was totally opposing Anna’s request to photo shop the camera man’s stomach to make him more svelte and eye pleasing. I have to say that Grace’s human touch in a mad world seeking perfection was a joy to see. Her tantrums about Anna disregarding her shots were also pretty great! Anna is a remarkable force though and one does wonder how anybody else could run the world’s greatest fashion magazine as efficiently and expertly as she.
The film pretty much summed up the necessary balance between head and heart, dreams and reality, the suits and the creatives all of which are omnipresent in the Fashion business. So which camp are you an Anna or a Grace?

Eley Kishimoto Spring Summer 2010
One of the great shows I had the pleasure of attending this London fashion week, was the Eley Kishimoto catwalk show. I was really excited to see the new season from the duo known for their amazing bold print design.
I took my seat and enjoyed a spot of people watching before the show. The audience was an eclectic mix of industry, fans, fashionistas and generally cool looking people including a mystery blonde girl sitting in the front row. I watched as photographers scrambled to take her photo. She clearly wasn’t a mystery to anyone else.
After much camera flashing, the lights dimmed and the first nautical inspired look sashayed down the catwalk appropriately accompanied by quirky electro music from the soundtrack of the Wes Anderson’s “The Life Aquatic” A collection of geometric, bold colourful pieces followed. Outfits combining block colour and contrasting dense prints were styled with bare legs, loose socks and wedge sandals creating a playful look.
As the music shifted to LCD sound system’s “Daft Punk is playing at my house” so did the clothing into more dramatically contrasting prints. There were two show stoppers for me. A high waisted dress with yellow, brown and white feather print meeting the large red and green block stripes of it’s skirt jaggedly, as if constructed by collage. The second was literally the show stopper, the last piece of the show, a gorgeous pocketed shift dress with a centre panel of over-sized yellow and black vertical zigzags with contrasting pale blue and white floral sleeves.
As Wakako Kishimoto has said, the label’s signature is unsubtle and although I wouldn’t say that of the entire collection, my favourite pieces definitely fit this description. The collection is extremely wearable, but will most likely be worn by a woman with a strong personality who’s not afraid of a strong dose of colour. Sounds like a few of our customers!
Oh and by the way, the mystery blonde?……. Portia Freeman of course.
What Do You Think?

Here at Fifi Wilson, we are always on the lookout for designs in larger sizes to enable us to cater for beautiful women of all shapes. However, this is no easy task when some designer’s large is only a UK 12. Undoubtedly, some clothes look great on skinny minnies, however many sit better on a curvier shape, a woman with hips and boobs. Anyone who works here will tell you how different clothes transform on a variety of body shapes. We’re permanently on a quest to find designers that do a wide range of sizes, yet don’t sacrifice style and creativity in doing so.
It’s a downward spiral of small sample sizes, the need for slight models, the models getting thinner due to pressure from agencies and designers, and the designers cutting even smaller still. There’s no-one single handedly responsible, which makes it extremely hard to resolve. It’s the fault of designers, modelling agencies, bookers, magazine editors, money men, (Remember the M&S case of larger sizes cost more to produce) and ultimately us. Women are often very quick to self criticise and seek what society sees as perfection. It is doubtful we would witness such insecurities and self doubt if we were a mens shop!
Fashion is an art. It’s creative, and therefore partly about pushing boundaries and challenging what is the norm. In fashion for a long time we have had the size zero models who don’t represent the average woman with healthy appetites. So, is it not slightly bizarre that a size 12/14 model should become so controversial?
At the Mark Fast show this year there were audible gasps when the size 14 models walked down the catwalk and another size debate was launched. Has society formed a warped perception of what is acceptable for women to aspire to? It is technically a lot harder to cut for curves, which explains the difficulty in finding good shapes for boobs. Whatever the reason, all of us at Fifi Wilson are in full agreement that something needs to be done to challenge the attitude towards larger sizes in fashion.
We all need to group together and demand these amazing designers provide for everybody, and celebrate the beauty of women in all forms. There are so many gorgeous, stylish, curvy women that are not satisfied with having to settle for dull clothes of poor quality.
So come on designers make a start! Support real women, skinny and curvy, we’re all equally fab and worthy of amazing clothes, don’t you think? Please leave us some comments to let us know what you think. We value our customers opinions as much as our favourite Bella jersey. So please get in touch with your Fifi friends!

It is a little bit of heaven for me. I love everything I buy!
