Eley Kishimoto Spring Summer 2010
One of the great shows I had the pleasure of attending this London fashion week, was the Eley Kishimoto catwalk show. I was really excited to see the new season from the duo known for their amazing bold print design.
I took my seat and enjoyed a spot of people watching before the show. The audience was an eclectic mix of industry, fans, fashionistas and generally cool looking people including a mystery blonde girl sitting in the front row. I watched as photographers scrambled to take her photo. She clearly wasn’t a mystery to anyone else.
After much camera flashing, the lights dimmed and the first nautical inspired look sashayed down the catwalk appropriately accompanied by quirky electro music from the soundtrack of the Wes Anderson’s “The Life Aquatic” A collection of geometric, bold colourful pieces followed. Outfits combining block colour and contrasting dense prints were styled with bare legs, loose socks and wedge sandals creating a playful look.
As the music shifted to LCD sound system’s “Daft Punk is playing at my house” so did the clothing into more dramatically contrasting prints. There were two show stoppers for me. A high waisted dress with yellow, brown and white feather print meeting the large red and green block stripes of it’s skirt jaggedly, as if constructed by collage. The second was literally the show stopper, the last piece of the show, a gorgeous pocketed shift dress with a centre panel of over-sized yellow and black vertical zigzags with contrasting pale blue and white floral sleeves.
As Wakako Kishimoto has said, the label’s signature is unsubtle and although I wouldn’t say that of the entire collection, my favourite pieces definitely fit this description. The collection is extremely wearable, but will most likely be worn by a woman with a strong personality who’s not afraid of a strong dose of colour. Sounds like a few of our customers!
Oh and by the way, the mystery blonde?……. Portia Freeman of course.
Treats For London Fashion Week

London Fashion Week is nearly here again! At Fifi Wilson we love the chance to see as many collections as possible each season so that we can select the most gorgeous clothes to grace the Fifi Wilson stores for you to choose from. However, sometimes all the excitement becomes a little too exhausting. So being a neighbour of the new LFW venue of Somerset House in nearby Monmouth Street, we thought we should offer you a couple of suggestions to keep you refreshed during the Fashion Week whirlwind.
Before you head off to enjoy the fabulous fashion shows and beautiful neoclassical architecture of Somerset house, pop in to Monmouth Coffee for a bit of an energy boost. It’s just up the street from our Covent Garden store and just round the corner from Somerset House. With a great selection of coffee beans and talented baristas who’ll make your coffee to perfection, you can understand why the Fifi Covent Garden staff stop here everyday on the way to work. We highly recommend the chocolate truffles, the perfect combination with a yummy creamy coffee. Although, be warned, we happen to know first hand that they are highly addictive!
If coffee’s not your thing, take a break from the rush of fashion week in the peaceful drawing room at the lovely Covent Garden Hotel, also on Monmouth Street. Plonk yourself down on one of the vividly upholstered, comfy couches and have afternoon tea in style. They have a great selection of speciality teas, finger sandwiches, scones and clotted cream, homemade preserves, cinnamon butter, chocolate dipped strawberries, rhubarb tartlets…. need we say more. Sorry, we get a bit carried away being more than a little food obsessed at Fifi Wilson!
After all that energising refreshment you’ll be ready to check out some of our favourite British designers at Fashion Week including Antoni and Alison, Elizabeth Lau, Suwha and YMC. Then to round off the day you can pop in to us at our Covent Garden boutique and try on their beautiful Autumn/Winter 08 collections or make the most of our FREE shipping deal online for ALL British designers!

Fifi Wilson is one of my favourite little treasure chests. A must stop and shop every time I am in London!
