For the cupcakes:

Source: Magnolia’s Vanilla Cupcakes from Food Network

Yield: 24 standard cupcakes

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups (190 grams/6.5 ounces) self-rising flour

1 1/4 cups (160 grams/5.5 ounces) all-purpose flour

1 cup (2 sticks/227 grams/8 ounces) unsalted butter, softened

2 cups (400 grams/14 ounces) white sugar

4 large eggs, at room temperature

1 cup (250 mL) milk

1 teaspoon (5 mL) pure vanilla extract

Method

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line 2 standard muffin tins with cupcake liners of your choice (24 total).

2. In a small bowl, combine the flours and set aside.

3. In a large bowl, on the medium speed of an electric mixer, cream the butter until smooth. Add the sugar gradually and beat until fluffy, about 3 minutes. Add the eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition.

4. Add the dry ingredients in 3 parts, alternating with the milk and vanilla. With each addition, beat until the ingredients are incorporated but do not over beat. Using a rubber spatula, scrape down the batter in the bowl to make sure the ingredients are well blended.

5. Carefully spoon the batter into the cupcake liners ( to ensure consist cupcake sizes) and bake in middle of oven until tops turn golden brown and toothpick inserted into center comes out just clean (a few crumbs is okay), about 18 minutes.

6. Cool the cupcakes in tins for 15 minutes. Remove from the tins and cool completely on a wire rack before icing.

For the frosting:

Ingredients

3 sticks (340 grams/12 ounces) unsalted butter, softened and cut into cubes

5 cups (625 grams/22 ounces) confectioners’ sugar (icing, powdered)

2 tablespoons (30 mL) milk

2 teaspoons (10 mL) pure vanilla extract

pinch of salt

Method

1. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, whip butter for 5 minutes on medium speed  Butter will become very pale & creamy.

2. Add remaining ingredients and mix on low speed for 1 minute, then on medium speed for 5 minutes. Frosting will be very light, creamy, and fluffy.

3. Add touch of gel food colour, if desired and mix until blended.

4. Best used right away.

Get Ready To Rock The Fifi Sale Girls

KellyBrookOne of the sayings that was drummed into me as a little girl, was treat others like you would like to be treated and I try very hard to carry that ethos into our shops. Nothing infuriates me quite so much as people not being straight and deliberately misleading others. One of the worst crimes has to be the retail ‘Up to…’ conspiracy.

We’ve all rushed along to one of our favourite shops at sale time with ‘Up to whatever off’ stickers plastered over the windows only to enter and find a couple of tired pieces marked at the maximum reduction and the rest with a pathetic, miserable discount. So……  when it comes to Fifi Wilson, we do not mess about. Our sale is renowned as we go straight in at 50% off all clothes. With last season being our first ever online sale, nothing prepared us for how many sales would flood through and I got quite upset that stock was disappearing before our boutique customers could get into the shops. They’re damn speedy those online shoppers and nothing lasts very long, so you do have to be quick. Still all’s fair in love and shopping. We have top designer labels such as Manoush, See by Chloe, Odd Molly, Stretsis, Nice Things, APC Madras including so many others. I am limbering up me lil’ wrapping fingers for June 15th as I type …… :-)

saleI know they say ‘Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved….blah blah blah… and maybe that’s true but I’m afraid I can’t agree when it comes to clothes. I still drive everyone insane talking about the fabulous beige American Retro cardi with the lurex heart on the back and the fact that I’ll never be able to get my mitts on one pains me to this day. That was three years ago… but I’ve learned from my mistakes.

Right now, if you didn’t already know, it’s sale time. Every item of designer clothing in our stores is 50% off – we don’t mess around when it comes to sales. However, we thought we’d fill you in and let you know that every day we are selling out of lines and have had quite a few disappointed customers returning, cash at the ready only to find the coveted item has vamooshed. We opened our online store a few months ago and these online shoppers are a canny bunch and our stock is disappearing quicker than pleasantries on CBB. So if you’ve been umming and ahhing over something lovely we’re warning you, don’t leave it too late. Come and visit one of our boutiques or purchase online pronto. Daily we have customers asking if we can possibly get our hands on someting that we have sold out of, which is ney impossible.  So, this really is your last chance to pick up our wonderful Autumn/Winter 09 pieces from Worldwide designers such as Gabby Harris, Disaya, Le Mont St Michel, Manoush and Sonia at 50% reductions. We assure you that you shall get lots of wear out of all of our clothes and let’s be honest…. when do you think we’re next going to have a hot day?!

So take it from one who knows from experience and have a good scan at our sale rails/web pages or risk months or years of kicking yourself/lusting over what you can no longer have and I didn’t even start about the Laundry Industry sequin heart cardi and the Claudie Pierlot bow tops……….

A Proper SALE

sale bannerIf you’re familiar with us then you’ll know that we buy pieces that last the course! We buy clothes that you can wear year in, year out and some tops, cardis and jackets that even transcend seasons. Everybody that works in our shops will tell you that the one comment we hear repeatedly is that the item the customer bought from us is a favourite and never off her back. This is very satisfying as it means we are doing our job properly. Fashion has to move and evolve but we’re careful about suiting the customer rather than the latest trend.

So, when it comes to the Fifi Wilson sale after Christmas our clothes disappear faster than the pine needles. We treat customers the way we like to be treated and we find nothing more exasperating than those awful ‘Up to’ sale signs. You walk into the shop with the promise of up to 50% off to find it full of much lower discounts. So, we don’t mess around we give something back to our great customers and reduce what stock we have left of Disaya, Odd Molly, Manoush, Gabby Harris, By Malene, Sonia by Sonia Rykiel, Bella Freud amongst many by a straight 50%. Be warned though, word has spread and we have many items that there are only one or two pieces left in all the shops!

If you want to pick up some of our great buys Chelsea and Covent Garden boutiques are open on Boxing Day 10-6pm and all boutiques are open on New Years Eve 12-4pm. Otherwise, we are of course open all hours online. Please allow for a slight delay in delivery times over the festive period.
